For the first time I have a major probelm with the Obama administration. Last night, North Korea launched a satelite, and many realize it has the potential to guide balsitic missles far enough to hit hawaii, or Parts of california. The UN, and US both gave "stern" statements about the lauch, saying sanctions would be put on North Korea if the launch went through, but it stoped no one.
The poses a threat to Japan, the US, and many others yet nothing was done. Quite honestly I believe for saftey reasons it should of been shot down, North Korea has shown many times in the past it dosen't exactly care about what the UN says, and this is no exception. The sanctions we will put on them will do nothing, their leader does not care about them in the slighest the satellite needs to be destroyed or we will live in danger of an attack by a insane [to say the least] leader of a nation with nucelar weapons.

Republican Future
Written After President Obama's first address to both bodies of Congress.
On Tuesday night, after a uprising speech by President Obama, it was the republicans turn to capture the American attention, and they had picked just the man to do it, or so it seemed. They choose maybe the fastest growing star in the Republican party, Governor Pishu “Bobby” Jindal of Louisiana. This is a governor that was apparently very high on Senator McCain’s vice presidential nominee list, is popular, young, and has maybe the only national story that can rival that of President Obama’s. So naturally expectations were high, and with the whole nation watching, Governor Jindal didn’t exactly deliver, but he did show what the republican problem will be over the next few elections.
The speech itself lacked much luster, it followed to closely a set pace, and the stories seemed far to planned to be believed. And Governor Jindal’s theme of “Americans can do anything”, seemed over stressed, and under thought out. However governor Jindal cannot be blamed for coming of as such, after all the speech made by president Obama was very inspiring and made people so much more hopeful.
Governor Jindal effectively turned away from the more “moderate” stance the republican party as taken over time, as well as called out the past for it’s mistakes. “
“In recent years, these distinctions in philosophy became less clear because our party got away from its principles” This line for Jindal’s speech says it all. It shows the power struggle that is to come between the more moderate republicans, who believe the only way to go is to “widen the tent”, and embrace the mentala of the Regan years, to allow a conservative progression in the party. Or Governor Jindal’s side, of returning to the basics of the party, and becoming more “Goldwater” than “Reagan”. The elections of the past years have made it difficult, Senator McCain was certainly not the most conservative person fiscally or socially, however he managed to become the conservative nominee. This is the problem presented, the more progressive candidates such as McCain have not worked, and the republican faithful have grown old of them, while the new breed of republicans welcome them. It all comes down to how strongly they hold to the old republican base.

The good news for Governor Jindal is unlike what would of happened if Obama were to fail on his delivery, he will get much more chances to make a good impression with the American people. This 37 year old, former congressman has one of the brightest political futures available, and by no means have we heard the last of Governor Jindal. His path is almost certain, however from Governor Jindal’s tone, we must wonder about the republican parties path.
Jindal’s tone, we must wonder about the republican parties path. In the end, one of the sides of the republican problem has to win, and they have to do it soon. With few true leaders anywhere the side that comes out on top will control the party for many years. Will the republicans go back to basics as they did under Goldwater? Or will they instead choose to continue the expansion of the party, and allow much more progression through out?One thing is clear, while the theme of Governor Jindal’s address was “Americans can do anything”, the theme of the republican party is “where from here”?

President's personality
It is no secret that President Obama is more inviting to the media than our former President Bush. During the election Senator Obama embraced the media, and now President Obama is furthering that strategy. Flipping through my latest copy of Time magizine I saw an article by our president. He called for more people to serve their communities, then watching T.V. that night... there was the president on the tonight show with Jay Leno trying to explain the disaster that has become the Goverment bailout of AIG
Some may complain that this is to "media", or that the President needs more time hashing out policy rather than doing an interveiw with jay Leno, and to those people I say this, Loosen up. I find it far more comforting that President Obama is speaking to the American people, from his weekly "21st century fireside chats", to his apperaces on the Tonight show, it's a great way to get more people involved and aware in politics.
I also would like to remind to his critics that Franklin Roosevelt himself went on Radio during his presidency, thus obama is just doing the modern version of Roosevelt's openess of the presidency. I will admitt President Obama is a "media president" but let's stop seeing that as a negitive. On a much brighter side at least he is engaging the American people, at least he is speaking to the American people, and it should be a refreshment rather than something seen as un-needed. Maybe he will further political intrest in America and get people caring about the office of President again and feeling like they really belong to something. I don't see how anyone, conservative or liberal could see involvment as a bad thing, grow up.
